? Bradley freshman Michelle Hartman (Savanna, Ill./Prince of Peace H.S.) claimed her first career individual victory on Friday, winning the 400 meter run with a career-best time of 1:01.38 at the Iowa Invitational in Iowa City.
Hartman, who also set the fastest time for a BU runner in the event this indoor season, defeated race runner-up Nicole Mulder of Simpson (1:02.89) by more than a full second. Bradley freshman Tatierra Bivens (Chicago, Ill./Marist H.S.) finished fourth in the race with a time of 1:05.72.
The Braves fared well in sprint events, as Bivens turned in a fourth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.87 seconds. Junior Erika Sepich (Canton, Ill./Canton H.S.) and senior Amanda Harms (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South H.S.) qualified for the finals of the 60 meter dash. In the finals, Sepich placed sixth with a time of 8.42 seconds, while Harms finished close behind in seventh at 8.58 seconds.
Bradley sophomore Leann Murphy (Rochester, Ill.Rochester H.S.) finished third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:20.73, narrowly missing her previous indoor season-best. Murphy was followed in the race by sophomore Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North H.S.) with a time of 2:22.01 for fifth place. Goldkamp also claimed sixth place in the 600 meter run, clocking in at 1:40.52.
In field events, Bradley freshman Kourtnie Janson (Cambridge, Ill./Cambridge H.S.) turned in the top high jump performance of the meet with a BU season-best jump of five feet-one inch. Freshman Lyndsey Cleghorn equalled her season-best in the event with a jump of four feet-11 inches. Senior Trish Martens (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central H.S.) recorded a jump of 32 feet-11 inches in the triple jump, narrowly missing her previous indoor season-best.
The Braves will now prepare for the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships, slated to begin Feb. 28 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
