? The Bradley women's tennis team played its third and final match of its spring break trip to Las Vegas, Nev. on Wednesday afternoon, using its third consecutive doubles sweep and four singles victories to defeat Oakland, 5-2.
Entering Wednesday's match with a combined doubles record of 27-6 during the spring dual season, the Braves (8-4) continued their solid doubles play with a sweep of the Golden Grizzlies (1-4) on Wednesday afternoon to finish the three-match trip to the desert with a 9-0 mark in doubles play. At the top spot in the lineup, sophomore Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) and freshman Veronika Wojakowska (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer H.S.) cruised to an 8-2 victory over Lindsay Grimmer and Karen Karoub. The Braves are now 12-0 at the top doubles spot in the lineup in dual matches this season.
Bradley juniors Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.) and Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) followed with their third victory of the road trip with an 8-4 win over Michelle Maxfield and Gabrielle Gogas at No. 2. At No. 3, Bradley seniors Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) and Erin Krubeck (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) extended their win streak to eight matches with an 8-6 victory over Amanda Scheer and Caitlin Young.
Miller made quick work of Grimmer at the top singles spot for a 6-2, 6-0 win. At No. 2, Wojakowska recorded a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Scheer, while Buterbaugh earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Karoub at No. 3. Krubeck gave the Braves their fourth singles win at No. 5, stopping Maxfield in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Oakland won two singles matches for its only points of the dual, starting with Young's win over Donohue at No. 4. Young led the first set 4-2 before Donohue retired in the match. Jackie Dinicu logged the other win for the Golden Grizzles, downing Braun at No. 6 by a score of 6-3, 6-4.
The Braves will now turn their attention to Missouri Valley Conference play, visiting Creighton for The Valley opener this Saturday at 1 p.m. Bradley beat the Bluejays twice last season, including a 4-0 victory in the opening round of the 2008 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
