PEORIA, Ill. -- The Bradley women's tennis team dropped its third consecutive Missouri Valley Conference match on Saturday, as Indiana State won the doubles point for an early lead and added four victories in singles competition to beat the Braves, 5-2, at the Clubs at River City.
The Sycamores (3-8 overall, 1-0 MVC) claimed doubles wins at each of the top two spots in the lineup, starting with an 8-4 victory for Sarah Meghoufel and Elmine Botes at No. 1 over Bradley's duo of junior Emily Reginald (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton H.S.) and sophomore Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.). At No. 2, Sofya Lifanova and Anna Morgina provided an 8-1 victory for the visitors, downing the Bradley pairing of junior Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.) and freshman Veronika Wojakowska (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer H.S.).
Bradley's (8-7 overall, 0-3 MVC) senior doubles pairing of Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) and Erin Krubeck (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) was credited with a forfeit victory at No. 3 doubles.
The shorthanded Sycamores played with just four players on Saturday with each player earning a singles victory to clinch the dual win for the defending MVC regular season and tournament champions.
Morgina earned a win at No. 1 singles over Miller, 6-3, 6-2, while Meghoufel topped Wojakowska at No. 2 by a final score of 6-0, 6-1. Botes beat Regenold at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the victory for the Sycamores, and Lifanova added a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 over BU junior Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy). Buterbaugh was given a default win at No. 5, followed by a default win for Braun at No. 6 to account for Bradley's points in the dual.
Saturday marks the end of Bradley's brief two-match homestand as the Braves will return to the road to visit Saint Louis for their final non-conference match of the regular season on Saturday, April 4 at 3 p.m.
