Sepich Wins Javelin Title at Calhoun Memorial

MACOMB, Ill. ? Bradley junior Erika Sepich (Canton, Ill./Canton H.S.) recorded a throw of 133 feet, one inch to win the javelin throw on Saturday, leading the Bradley women's track & field team at the second day of the 20th annual Lee Calhoun Memorial hosted by Western Illinois in Macomb. The victory was second individual win of the outdoor season for the Braves.

Sepich's throw of 133 feet, one inch easily beat her previous season-best of 114 feet, 11 inches set two weeks ago at the Tulsa Invitational. Jenna Uhe of Eastern Illinois finished second in the event with a throw of 127 feet, 11 inches.

The Braves competed in one other field event, as freshman Kourtnie Janson (Cambridge, Ill./Cambridge H.S.) recorded a fourth place finish in the high jump with a leap of five feet, one inch. Freshman teammate Lyndsey Cleghorn (Oswego, Ill./Oswego H.S.) tied for fifth with a jump of four feet, 11 inches.

Bradley sophomore Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North H.S.) continued her solid outdoor season with a runner-up finish in the 800 meter run, setting a personal outdoor season-best with a time of 2:16.35. Sophomore Leann Murphy (Rochester, Ill./Rochester H.S.) was seventh in the event with a time of 2:20.97, while junior Shannon Seyller (Harvard, Ill./Harvard H.S.) was the third Brave in the top 10 with a 10th place finish in 2:25.22.

Goldkamp also competed in the 200 meter dash for Bradley, recording a time of 26.53 seconds. The effort was a new season-best in the event for the Braves, giving Goldkamp the fastest BU time in four different running events the outdoor season.

Sepich led the Braves in the 100 meter dash with a 14th place finish in 13.36 seconds, followed closely by freshman Michelle Hartman (Savanna, Ill./Prince of Peace H.S.) in 15th place with a final time of 13.60 seconds. Murphy added a top-five finish in the 1,500 meter run, placing fifth with a time of 4:54.24.

The Braves finished sixth as a team in the 10-team event, earning 55.5 points. Eastern Illinois won the team title with 200 points. Bradley will return to outdoor competition on Saturday, April 18 at the Dave Rankin Invitational hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind.
