Bradley junior Erika Sepich (Canton, Ill./Canton H.S.) turned in a runner-up finish in the javelin throw and sophomore Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North H.S.) recorded a 12th place finish in the 400 meter dash, leading the Bradley women's track & field team Saturday at the Dave Rankin Invitational hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind.
Sepich, who set a season personal-best throw last week at Western Illinois, narrowly missed another personal-best with a throw of 128 feet, one inch to finish second in the event. Notre Dame's Elise Knutzen won the event with a throw of 134 feet, four inches.
In other field events, Bradley freshman Kourtnie Janson (Cambridge, Ill./Cambridge H.S.) and Lyndsey Cleghorn (Oswego, Ill./Oswego H.S.) tied for 14th in the high jump with identical leaps of 4 feet, 11 inches. Senior Jessica Holloway (Paris, Ill./Paris H.S.) was 10th in the long jump with a jump of 15 feet, 5.5 inches.
Already owning Bradley's fastest time in four different events this outdoor season, Goldkamp recorded BU's top finish in a running event on Saturday with a 12th place showing in the 400 meter dash. Her time of 1:00.81 narrowly missed her season-best of 1:00.68 set last week at Western Illinois. Sophomore Leann Murphy (Rochester, Ill./Rochester H.S.), running in her first 400 of the outdoor season, was 15th in the with a time of 1:02.22.
Sepich turned in the top BU performance in a pair of sprint events, finishing 18th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.31 seconds. Her time of 27.69 seconds placed her 15th in the 200 meter dash. Junior Shannon Seyller (Harvard, Ill./Harvard H.S.) was the lone Bradley participant in the 800 meter run, placing 23rd in a time of 2:27.01.
The Braves will return to outdoor competition on Saturday, April 25 at the Stan Lyons Open hosted by Butler in Indianapolis, Ind.
