? The Bradley women's tennis team played its final match of the regular season Sunday morning at Southern Illinois, dropping a 7-0 Missouri Valley Conference decision to the Salukis at SportsBlast in Carbondale, Ill.
The Salukis swept the doubles matches to gain early momentum. Fadzai Mawisire and Ame Blacketer beat the Bradley pairing of junior Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton H.S.) and sophomore Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) at No. 1 by a score of 8-3, while Jessica Flannery and Michela Cruise posted an 8-2 victory at No. 2 over BU juniors Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.) and Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy). Martina Vianna Ce and Vishakha Sheoran finished the SIU sweep with an 8-1 win against Bradley seniors Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) and Erin Krubeck (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) at No. 3.
In singles play, the Salukis didn't drop a set in any of the six contests in its sweep. Mawisire beat Miller 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1, followed by a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 for Sheoran over BU freshman Veronika Wojakowska (Colorado Springs, Colo./Fairview H.S.) Blacketer stopped Regenold and No. 3 6-3, 6-4 while Flannery bested Donohue at No. 4 6-1, 6-1. Vianna Ce handed Buterbaugh a 6-0, 6-2 loss at No. 5 and Emily Whitney delivered a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Braun at No. 6.
The defeat ends Bradley's regular season with a record of 8-13, including an 0-7 record in league play. Up next for the Braves is the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships beginning Friday, April 24 in Omaha, Neb.
