OMAHA, Neb. ? The Bradley women's tennis team won the doubles point to jump to an early lead in its match against Creighton, but the Bluejays recovered to win four singles matches and clinch a 4-1 victory over the Braves in the first round of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships at the Koch Family Tennis Center, Friday morning in Omaha, Neb.

The ninth-seeded Braves struck first by claiming two of three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. The BU pairing of junior Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton H.S.) and Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) posted their 17th win together this year, recording an 8-4 win against Tess Reddin and Nicole Nakaoka at the top spot in the lineup. BU juniors Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.) and Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) also posted a win, beating Leesa and Sarah Cadwallader at No. 2 by a 9-7 score.

The Bluejays did manage one doubles victory, as Lauren Mastro and Kelsey Schmidt downed the Bradley senior duo of Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) and Erin Krubeck (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) 8-5 at No. 3.

Facing the early deficit, Creighton recorded four singles victories in straight sets to win the dual and advance to the tournament quarterfinals against top-seeded Wichita State. Reddin defeated Miller at No. 1 by a score of 6-2, 6-2, followed by a 6-0, 6-4 win for Mastro at No. 2 over BU freshman Veronika Wojakowska (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer H.S.). Nakaoka topped Regenold at No. 3 6-4, 6-1 and Lindsey Erickson ended the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Krubeck at No. 6.

Two singles matches went unfinished, as Schmidt and Donohue did not finish their match at No. 4. The match at No. 5 between Buterbaugh and Creighton's Mary Pat McMullan was stopped in a third set.

The defeat ends Bradley's season with a record of 8-14. Miller's doubles win gives her a total of 19 for her sophomore season, second-most in a single-season at Bradley and one shy of tying the Bradley school record of 20 set by Ashley Morris and Elise Montrose in 2005-06. Regenold finished the campaign with 18 doubles wins, third-most in a single-season at Bradley.
