PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior infielder Miriam Wegmann (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) won a pair of scholar-athlete of the honors announced Wednesday as she was named the Prairie Farms Missouri Valley Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week in addition to earning Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors.
An All-Tournament selection at the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, Wegmann helped the Braves to their first-ever MVC Tournament title and program first NCAA Tournament appearance. She was Bradley's top hitter in tournament play with a .333 average (4-for-12) with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Wegmann also stole two basses and added a sacrifice fly while boasting a .400 on-base percentage in the four wins. She reached base safely in all four games and belted a solo home run in the fourth inning of the championship contest to help the Braves to a 2-0 victory over regular-season MVC champion Creighton. An early childhood education major, Wegmann owns a 3.24 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
