Breanne Neufeld Wins Pair Of Awards

PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior women's golfer Breanne Neufeld (Coaldale, Alberta/Coaldale) was selected as the Missouri Valley Conference co-Golfer of the Week and was also named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after finishing second at the season-opening Payne Stewart Memorial.

Neufeld followed up an opening round 75 with a pair of even-par 72's and tied Arkansas State's Jennifer Welch for the individual lead following 54 holes at 219. Welch clamed medalist honors by defeating Neufeld on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff. An english major, Neufeld owns a 3.32 cumulative grade point average.

Bradley finished fifth at the Payne Stewart Memorial and Neufeld's final-round 72 helped the Braves to a third-round score of 301. The 301 was the best round for Bradley since shooting a 299 in the first round of the Saluki Invitational on March 30, 2008. Neufeld earned MVC Golfer of the Week honors for the first time in her career and shared the award with Illinois State's Stacey Miller.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.  

Neufeld and the Braves return to action Oct. 5 & 6 at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
