LEMONT, Ill. -- Senior Zach Wanken (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) fired rounds of 76 and 73 during the opening day of play at the John Dallio Memorial Sunday to highlight the first two rounds of the season for the Bradley Men's Golf team. The Braves are 15th overall after 36 holes at the par-72 Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont, Ill.
Wanken was Bradley's top performer in both rounds Sunday and enters Monday's final round tied for 15th at five-over par 149. Sophomore Chris Niemiec (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) and junior Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) are both 10 shots back of Wanken in a tie for 53rd at 159.
Niemiec followed up a first-round 81 with a second-round 78, while Thompson shot a 79 in the first round of the season and an 80 in the afternoon. Senior Zach Zobrist (Morton, Ill./Peoria Christian) is tied for 68th at 162 after shooting a pair of 81's. Junior Nate Perry (Normal, Ill./Normal West) rounded out the scoring for the Braves at 165 following rounds of 85 and 80 and is 77th overall.
Tournament-host DePaul holds a 10-shot lead heading into Monday's final round with a 36-hole score of 582. Western Illinois is second at 592 after shooting a pair of 296's Sunday. Detroit Mercy is third in the team standings at 594 and Georgetown follows in fourth at 596. Nova Southeastern rounds out the top five at 605 and is followed by Loyola-Chicago in sixth (608) and Eastern Illinois in seventh (612).
Wright State is one shot behind Eastern Illinois in eighth at 613 and George Washington is ninth at 614. Drake and South Florida finished the day in a tie for 10th place at 618, while Northern Iowa was one shot back in 12th at 619. Dayton and Southern Illinois are tied for 13th at 622 and Bradley is six shots back in 15th at 628. Loyola College rounds out the field in 16th at 636.
