LEMONT, Ill. -- The Bradley men's golf team shot a final-round 333 to finish 15th at the season-opening John Dallio Memorial at the par-72 Ruffled Feathers Golf Club Monday. Wind gusts near 30 miles per hour made play difficult during Monday's final round of play.
Sophomore Chris Niemiec (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) was Bradley's top performer on the final day, shooting a third-round 81 to finish 53rd at 240. Senior Zach Wanken (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) entered the day tied for 15th, cut carded an 87 to slip into a tie for 40th place at 236.
Junior Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) was two shots behind Niemiec at 242 and was tied for 57th, following a final round of 83. Junior Nate Perry (Normal, Ill./Normal West) fired an 82 Monday to conclude play and was tied for 65th at 247, while senior Zach Zobrist (Morton, Ill./Peoria Christian) rounded out the scoring for the Braves with a 94. Zobrist was tied for 83rd in the field at 256.
Tournament-host DePaul ran away with the team-title, finishing with a three-round score of 880. Detroit was second at 898 with Western Illinois taking third at 901. Nova Southeastern was 22 shots back of the Leathernecks in fourth at 923 and George Washington was fifth at 929. Georgetown and South Florida tied for sixth (930) and Loyola-Chicago was eighth at 931. Wright State and Drake both tied for ninth with scores of 935.
Northern Iowa captured 11th (937) and was followed by Dayton in 12th at 939. Southern Illinois was three shots back in 13th at 942, with Eastern Illinois finishing 14 shots ahead of the Braves in 14th at 947. Bradley was 15th overall at 961 and Loyola College rounded out the field in 16th with a three-round total of 974.
The Bradley Men's Golf team returns to action Oct. 5 & 6 at the Butler Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind.
