ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Freshman guard Katie Yohn (Elgin, Ill./St. Edward) has been named the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week announced by the league office Tuesday after helping Bradley to a 74-62 home win against Northern Iowa Friday.
Yohn scored a game-high 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting to help the Braves to their third consecutive victory. She connected on 6-of-8 three-point attempts and also added one block and three steals in the win. Yohn knocked down a pair of three-pointers to highlight a 20-0 BU first-half which helped Bradley pull away from the Panthers.
Bradley's leading scorer with a 10.1 points per game average, she is the seventh player in school history with two games in the same season with six or more three pointers (second freshman) and her 30 trey's on the year rank as the third best total by a BU freshman. She joins Stephany Neptune (Southern Illinois) and Missouri State's Christianna Shorter as the only multiple winners of MVC Newcomer of the Week honors this season. Yohn was this year's first recipient of the award (Nov. 16) after averaging 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and a team-best 5.0 assists per game in her first two games.
Yohn and the Braves return to action Friday at league-leading and preseason Valley favorite Creighton in a 7:05 p.m. game at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb.
