NORMAL, Ill. -- Freshman Travis Kreiter (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) shot a season-low 73 in the second round and tied for 30th to pace the Bradley men's golf team Sunday during the final day of play at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate at the par-72 Weibring Golf Course. Play in the 54-hole tournament was suspended late in the second round Saturday due to darkness and resumed Sunday morning.
Kreiter finished up his second-round with a season-best, one-over par 73 and shot a 76 during Sunday's final round to finish tied for 30th in the field at 231. Senior Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) saved his best round for last, carding a 77 in the third round and finished tied for 70th at 241. Thompson finished tied with freshman Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) for 70th (241), who carded a pair of 79's in the final two rounds.
Freshman Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) shot a final-round 84 and finished 89th at 250, while senior Nathan Perry (Normal, Ill./Normal West) shot a third-round 82 and was 93rd in the field at 255 to round out the scoring for the Braves.
Illinois won the team title with a three-round score of 875. Iowa State was second overall, 18 shots back at 903, and Nebraska was third in the standings at 909. Northern Iowa and Louisville tied for fourth at 913, with Missouri State following in sixth place at 917. Akron finished seventh (917), while Northern Illinois (918), Drake (929) and Loyola (937) rounded out the top 10.
Tournament-host Illinois State was 11th overall at 938 and finished two shots ahead of 12th-place Creighton (940). Southern Illinois finished 13th (942), with Detroit and SIU Edwardsville tying for 14th in the field at 944. Western Illinois was nine back in 16th place at 953 and DePaul finished 17th at 954. Bradley completed the field in 18th at 961.
The Braves are scheduled to complete it's fall schedule Oct. 18 & 19 at the UMKC Invitational in Kansas City, Mo.
