PEORIA, Ill. -- The Bradley women's golf team will conclude its fall schedule Monday and Tuesday at the 54-hole Spider Invitational at the par-72 Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Va.
Monday's action will feature 36 holes beginning with a 7:15 a.m. (CDT) shotgun start and the tournament concludes Tuesday with one round of play beginning at 7:15 a.m. (CDT). The 10-team field includes tournament host Richmond, Dayton, Fairfield, Hollins University, Old Dominion, Pennsylvania, Rutgers, Seton Hall and Towson.
The Braves have had a successful fall season, highlighted by junior Kelly Amundrud's (Calgary, Alberta/Strathcona Tweedsmuir) back-to-back medalist honors at the Butler Fall Invitational and Payne Stewart Memorial, in addition to the team's first tournament title since 2008 when Bradley won the Butler Fall Invite in Indianapolis in early October.
Amundrud enters the final event of the fall with the best stroke average in the Missouri Valley Conference (74.1 per round) and owns a 72.5 average over her last six rounds. She has earned MVC Golfer of the Week three times this season and finished in the top 10 in six consecutive events dating back to last season.
Senior Breanne Neufeld (Coaldale, Alberta/Kate Andrews) has also had a strong fall season and ranks second in the MVC in stroke average to Amundrud at 75.8. Neufeld enters the final event of the season with 55 career rounds in the 70's and needs just two sub-80 rounds to pass Rikki Sobel for third on Bradley's career list. Neufeld has posted a 74.7 stroke average over her last seven rounds.
Not to be outdone, senior Caitlin Deeken (California, Mo./California) is coming off the best 54-hole tournament of her career at the Payne Stewart Memorial, where she tied for 16th with a three-round score of 230. Deeken is tied for 11th in the Valley with a 78.3 stroke average and owns a 76.6 average in Bradley's last two tournaments.
