Breanne Neufeld Named Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week

Women?s Golf Second After Day One At Spider Invitational

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - Senior Breanne Neufeld (Coaldale, Alberta/Kate Andrews) is three shots off the lead in second at the Spider Invitational and the Bradley women's golf team is second in the team standings behind Pennsylvania after 36 holes of play Monday at the par-72 Independence Golf Club.

The Braves matched a season-best in the second round, shooting a 301 to finish the day 15 shots behind Pennsylvania at 615.  Neufeld followed an opening round 75 with a one-over par 73 in the afternoon and is three shots behind individual leader Rui Li of Pennsylvania at 148 after 36 holes.  Li turned in rounds of 72 and 73 to finish the opening day of play at 145.

Senior Caitlin Deeken (California, Mo./California) fired a career-best 73 in the second round to surpass her previous career-low of 74 set during her freshman year and enters Tuesday's final round tied for ninth at 154.  Junior Kelly Amundrud (Calgary, Alberta/Strathcona Tweedsmuir) finished the day tied for 12th, one shot behind Deeken at 155 after rounds of 77 and 78. 

Junior Erin Gorman (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) matched her career-best with a second-round 77 and is three shots behind Amundrud in a tie for 20th at 158, while freshman Ali Daly (Peosta, Iowa/Western Dubuque) is in the field as an individual and helped highlight the first day of play with a season-best 77 in the second round as she finished Monday's action tied for 35th at 167.

Pennsylvania holds a 15-shot lead on the field with a 36-hole score of 600, while Bradley follows in second place at 615.  The Braves hold a two-shot edge on third-place Richmond (617) and three-shot advantage on fourth-place Old Dominion (618).  Dayton is fifth at 636 and Fairfield begins the third round in sixth (638).  Rutgers is seventh in the standings (641) with Towson (8th - 662), Hollins University (9th - 707) and Seton Hall (10th - 716) rounding out the field, respectively.

The Spider Invitational concludes Tuesday with one round of play beginning at 7:15 a.m. (CDT).
