Box Score MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Bradley trailed by 11 points midway through the second half, but scored the final six points in regulation and overtime to rally for a 72-70 overtime road win at Wisconsin-Milwaukee Wednesday at the Klotsche Center. The Braves finished 3-1 on the season-long, four-game road swing to improve to 4-3 overall on the year.
Junior Latasha Hollingshed (Bellwood, Ill./St. Joseph/Illinois Central) had a double-double with 13 points and a career-best 20 rebounds, while sophomore Katie Yohn (Elgin, Ill. St. Edward) and senior Raisa Taylor (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) hit free throws in the closing seconds of the second half and overtime, respectively, to help BU pull out the victory.
UWM (3-3 overall) led 48-37 midway through the second half and the Panthers lead stood at 52-42 with 8:25 remaining. Sammy Theut made Wisconsin-Milwaukee's final basket of the second half with 4:25 on the clock and the teams traded free throws as Bradley trailed 60-53 with 3:24 left in the period, before BU used a 9-2 run to force overtime.
Junior Lauren Niemiera (Orland Park, Ill./Marist) hit a three-pointer to pull BU to within four points (60-56) and Yohn followed a pair of UWM free throws with a three-pointer of her own to trim the Panthers' lead to 62-59 with 45.8 seconds left in the second half. The Braves came away with a steal on UWM's next possession, but Yohn's three-point attempt from the wing was off the mark.
Theut missed the front end of a one-and-one with 16.2 seconds on the clock and Yohn was fouled with 1.4 seconds left while attempting a potential game-tying three-pointer from the corner. Yohn made all three of her free throw attempts to tie the score at 62-62 and force overtime.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee took a four-point lead (70-66) with 1:31 left in overtime when Angela Rodriguez connected on a 30-foot three-pointer as the shot clock expired to end a near eight-minute stretch for UWM without a field goal.
Trailing by four points, Bradley answered with a layup when Yohn found freshman Kelly Frings (Milwaukee, Wis./Piux XI) cutting to the hoop for a layup with 1:13 left. After a Bradley steal at midcourt, Frings tied things up at 70-70 with a pair of free throws. Bradley got a stop on the defensive end and senior Raisa Taylor (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) made a pair of free throws with 6.6 seconds to put the Braves in front 72-70. UWM failed to get a shot off before time expired as Bradley held on for the 72-70 victory.
BU led by as many 10 points (20-10) in the first half and led 23-14 with six minutes before the break, but the Braves scored just two points the rest of the period and Wisconsin-Milwaukee used a 17-2 run to take a 31-25 lead into the half.
In addition to her team-leading 13 points, Holingshed's 20 rebounds are the most by a Bradley player since Carrie Coffman pulled down 22 boards at Wichita State on Feb. 9, 1995 and is tied for the fifth-best single-game effort in program history. Yohn made 7-of-8 free throws and finished with 12 points, five assists and three blocks. Frings, who was playing in her hometown, added a season-best 10 points off the bench.
Rodriguez made 6-of-10 three-point attempts to pace Wisconsin-Milwaukee in scoring with 25 points. Lindsay Laur added 21 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Theut contributed seven points, nine assists and seven steals in the loss.
Bradley returns to action Saturday when the Braves host Saint Louis at 2:05 p.m. at Renaissance Coliseum.
