Box Score LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Junior Kate Singler (Witt, Ill./Nokomis/Heartland C.C.) drove in her team-leading ninth RBI of the year, but Bradley managed just three hits against 22nd-ranked Tennessee Saturday as the Lady Vols posted a 12-2 victory against the Braves at the Troy Cox Classic. Bradley fell to 5-4 on the season, while Tennessee improved to 3-2 on the year.
The Lady Vols jumped out to an early lead, pushing three runs across in the top of the first inning. Tennessee had the bases loaded with two outs, when Megan Givens hit a three-run double to center field to give UT a 3-0 lead.
Tennessee struck for two more runs in the top of the second inning to push its lead to 5-0. Kelly Grieve had a run-scoring single and Kat Dotson drove in another run with a two-out single.
The Lady Vols broke the game open in the top of the third inning with seven runs in the frame. After consecutive walks to open the inning Ashley Andrews connected for a three-run homer to give Tennessee an 8-0 advantage. Dotson followed a pair of singles with a one-out triple to right field and she came around to score on a Tiffany Huff double. Erinn Webb capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to push the Lady Vols lead to 12-0.
Bradley got one run back in the bottom half of the third inning. Senior Lauren Meister (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) led off the frame with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Singler singled through the right side of the infield to plate Meister from second with the Braves first run of the contest.
The Braves capitalized on a Tennessee error in the bottom of the fifth inning for a run. Senior Amanda Clack (Hillsboro, Mo./Hillsboro) drew a walk to open the frame and stole second. After advancing to third base on a groundout, Clack raced home on a throwing error by Tennessee on a Singler strikeout.
Freshman Mackenzie Camp (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) suffered the loss for the Braves, falling to 0-1 on the year. She gave up four hits and five runs in one and one-third innings of work. Ivy Renfroe picked up the win for the Lady Vols, improving to 2-0 on the season. She tossed three innings in the victory and gave up two hits and one run.
Bradley closes out play at the Troy Cox Classic Sunday with a 10:30 a.m. game against Weber State.
