JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Sophomore Kelly Amundrud (Calgary, Alberta/Strathcona Tweedsmuir) shot a three-over par 75 Monday and the Bradley women's golf team is fifth in the field after one round of play at the Jacksonville Classic at the par-72 Hidden Hills Country Club.
Amundrud fired her eighth consecutive round in the 70's with her opening round 75 and is the Braves leader in fifth place. She is six shots back of Daytona State College's Amy West, who carded a three-under 69 to open play. Junior Breanne Neufeld (Coaldale, Alberta/Coaldale) picked up where she left off in the fall, firing a first-round 77 and is tied for eighth place.
Freshman Natalie Wisniewski (Williamsville, N.Y./South) is tied for 34th following an 83 during Monday's action and junior Caitlin Deeken (California, Mo./California) rounded out the team scoring with an opening round 86 to finish the day tied for 40th. Sophomore Keegan Ryan (Groveland, Ill./Morton) shot an 88 and is tied for 46th overall.
Bradley shot 321 as a team and is fifth in the standings. Three-time National Junior College Athletic Association national champion Daytona State College is the top-ranked NJCAA team in the nation and shot a 10-over par 298 to take the team lead heading into Tuesday's final round. Stetson is seven shots behind in second place at 305 and Cincinnati follows in third at 310.
Samford finished the day in fourth place at 312 and Bradley is nine shots back in fifth at 321. The Braves hold a one-shot lead on tournament-host Jacksonville (6th - 322), while Florida Gulf Coast and Presbyterian are two shots back in a tie for seventh at 323. Bethune-Cookman will enter Tuesday's play in ninth place (336), with North Dakota (10th - 360) and South Dakota State (11th - 398) rounding out the field, respectively.
Bradley closes out play at the Jacksonville Classic Tuesday with one round of play beginning at 7:30 a.m. (CST).
