PEORIA, Ill. - Senior Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton H.S.) earned two come from behind victories, but Wisconsin-Milwaukee took the seven remaining matches for a 6-1 win at the Clubs at River City North Friday afternoon.
After falling behind at No. 1 doubles, Regenold and junior Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) rallied to defeat Kelly Drvaric/Kari Kastenholz in a tie-break 8-7 (3-0). At No. 2 singles, Regenold dropped her first set to Ashley Schoneman 6-7 (0-3), but rebounded to win the match 6-4, 10-2.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee opened the dual with two doubles wins to earn the doubles point. Schoneman/Megan Gow shut out senior Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) and freshman Brigitte Graf (Double Oak, Texas/Faustina Academy) 8-0 at the No. 3 spot, while Sammi Schoen/Brittany Skemp beat senior Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.) and freshman Kennedy Scott (Calgary, Alberta/National Sports School) 8-3 at the No. 2 spot.
At No. 1 singles, Drvaric defeated Miller in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, while Schoen edged Buterbaugh 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. Donohue retired from her No. 4 singles match due to illness, giving Kastenholz the 1-0 victory. The Panthers also won at No. 5 and 6 singles as Skemp defeated Scott 6-1, 6-1, and Beth Ganser beat Graf 6-4, 6-1, respectively.
The Braves (2-5) will continue their eight-match home stand Saturday, Feb. 27 with a 1 p.m. dual against Southeast Missouri State.
