FLORENCE, Ariz. -- Junior Breanne Neufeld (Coaldale, Alberta/Coaldale) is tied for 18th after shooting an opening round three-over par 75 and freshman Natalie Wisniewski (Williamsville, N.Y./South) fired a season-best 78 Monday as the duo helped the Bradley women's golf team finish the first day of play at the Northern Migration Invitational in 15th place. The tournament is being held at the par-72 Poston Butte Golf Club.
Neufeld is seven shots behind individual leader Kayla Mortellaro of Idaho, who shot an opening round 68, and is tied for 18th after one round of play following her 75 Monday. Wisniewski is three shots behind Neufeld in a tie for 48th at 78, while sophomore Kelly Amundrud (Calgary, Alberta/Strathcona Tweedsmuir) is five shots back of Neufeld in a tie for 66th after shooting an 80 on the opening day of play.
Sophomore Keegan Ryan (Groveland, Ill./Morton) fired an 81 and is tied for 75th and junior Caitlin Deeken (California, Mo./California) rounded out the team scoring for the Braves with a first-round 88 to end the day in 105th. Sophomore Erin Gorman (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) is in the field as an individual and begins Tuesday's second round in 107th after shooting a 93.
Bradley is 15th in the field which includes 11 teams ranked in the top 100 according to Golfweek. Texas-San Antonio is the top team after 18 holes, shooting a 10-over par 298 Monday. Idaho and Kansas are one shot back in a tie for second at 299, while the duo of Minnesota and East Tennessee State follow in a tie for fourth place at 300. Iowa State and tournament-host Nebraska finished the day tied for sixth at 304, six shots behind Texas-San Antonio.
Florida International is one shot behind in eighth place (305) and holds a one-shot lead on Kansas State (9th - 306). Boise State is 10th in the team standings at 308 and is followed by Wichita State and Texas Tech which closed out Monday's action tied for 11th at 311. Northern Arizona and Eastern Michigan are tied for 13th (312) and finished the day two shots ahead of 15th-place Bradley (314). The Braves own a two-shot edge on Montana and Morehead State, which will begin Tuesday's second round tied for 16th at 316. Texas A&M Corpus Christi is 18th overall at 319 and Towson rounds out the field in 19th at 340.
Bradley continues play at the Northern Migration Invitational Tuesday with one round of play beginning at 9:30 a.m. (CDT).
