IOWA CITY, Iowa - Senior Zach Wanken (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) is tied for eighth after two rounds of play and fellow senior Zach Zobrist (Morton, Ill./Peoria Christian) carded a career-low 72 in the second round to highlight play for the Bradley men's golf team Saturday at the Hawkeye Invitational. The Braves are 10th in the field after 36 holes of play at the par-72 Finkbine Golf Course.
Wanken finished the opening day of play at three-over par 147, after rounds of 73 and 74 Saturday. He is five shots behind co-leaders Kyle Peterman of Western Illinois and Western Kentucky's Alex Yost, who finished the day tied atop the leaderboard at 142, and is three shots out of a tie for third heading into Sunday's final round.
Zobrist followed up a first-round 79 with a career-best 72 and is four shots behind Wanken in a tie for 23rd at 151. Junior Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) is tied for 50th after Saturday's play, turning in rounds of 78 and 79 to finish the day at 157.
Junior Nate Perry (Normal, Ill./Normal West) enters Sunday's final round in 59th after scores of 85 and 86, while freshman Cary Verseman (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) rounded out the scoring for the Braves at 176, turning in rounds of 89 and 87.
Tournament-host Iowa holds a three-shot lead on Miami (Ohio) with a two-round total of 586. Miami follows in second at 589. Western Illinois and Drake are tied for third in the standings at 594, while UMKC rounds out the top five at 600.
Northern Illinois follows in sixth place (603) and the Huskies are one shot ahead of seventh-place Western Kentucky (604). Missouri State begins Sunday's play in eighth (605). South Dakota State is ahead of Bradley in ninth place (607), while the Braves round out the field in 10th at 626.
