HOLLISTER, Mo. - Junior Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) shot a two-over par-73 and posted his third top-10 finish of the year as he helped the Bradley men's golf team to a ninth-place finish at the Branson Creek Invitational at the par-71 Branson Creek Golf Club Tuesday.
Thompson was the Braves top performer, tying for seventh in the field at 222 (77-72-73) to pace Bradley. Thompson edged senior Zach Wanken (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) by one shot as Wanken finished in a tie for 11th at 223, following his third-round 76.
Fellow Senior Zach Zobrist (Morton, Ill./Peoria Christian) closed out tournament play with a 78 and was tied for 45th at 238 in the final individual standings. Freshman Cory Verseman (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) shot an 80 and was 51st overall at 245, while junior Nathan Perry (Normal, Ill./Normal West) rounded out action with a 91 Tuesday and was 54th at 259.
Stephen F. Austin won a one-hole playoff with Western Illinois to claim the team title. The two teams were tied atop the team standings after 54 holes at 890. Southern Illinois was third overall at 894, edging fourth-place Northern Illinois (895) by one stroke. Tournament-host Missouri State placed fifth at 909, while Northern Iowa was two shots back in sixth (911). Creighton followed in seventh place (917) and Houston Baptist finished two shots ahead of Bradley for eighth at 923. The Braves rounded out the field in ninth place at 925.
