PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley women's basketball head coach Paula Buscher added another player to the roster Friday, announcing 5-10 guard Catie O'Leary (Janesville, Wis./Parker) has transferred from Wisconsin and will have three years of eligibility remaining. A freshman at Wisconsin last year, O'Leary will sit out the upcoming 2010-11 season and will be eligible to play during the 2011-12 campaign.
Originally recruited by Bradley out of high school, O'Leary saw action in five games with the Badgers as a true freshman in 2009-10. She was listed as one of Wisconsin's Top 50 Seniors coming out of Parker High School and was a two-time first-team all-state selection by the Associated Press and Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association.
"Catie is a pure shooter," Buscher said. "She can spread teams out with her long range shooting and was one of our top recruiting targets out of high school. We are looking forward to having her be a part of our team for the next four years."
O'Leary was three-time Big 8 Conference Player of the Year and two-time Wisconsin State Journal Player of the Year. She garnered second-team all-state honors as a sophomore and was an honorable mention all-state performer her freshman season.
The state scoring champ her junior season (19.4 points per game), she ranked second in the state of Wisconsin her senior year despite improving her scoring average to 20.9 points per outing. O'Leary helped Parker to a 76-16 (.826) record and three Big 8 Conference championships during her four years.
A three-sport standout, she was a state qualifier and first-team all-conference performer in cross country as a sophomore. She also earned all-conference honors in soccer and qualified for state sectionals in the 800 meters on the track.
O'Leary is the fourth addition to the 2010-11 roster for the Braves. She joins fellow Wisconsin natives Kelly Frings (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) and 5-9 guard Kelsey Budd (Prairie de Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie), along with 6-3 center Alyson Spinas-Valainis (Davenport, Iowa/Assumption), who signed National Letters of Intent to attend Bradley in the Fall.
