PEORIA, Ill. -- Third-year Bradley softball head coach Amy Hayes added one more player to the 2011 roster, announcing four-time all-state selection Alex Chandler (Needles, Calif./Needles) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Braves. A 5-10 shortstop/outfielder, Chandler helped her high school team to four consecutive state titles.
One of five California high schools part of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA), Needles High School claimed state championships in softball each of Chandler's four years and helped lead the Mustangs to a 70-19 (.787) over her final three prep seasons. She also played ASA softball for the Las Vegas Rage and head coach Kelly Glass.
The NIAA Class 2A state tournament MVP each of the last two years, she earned state Freshman of the Year honors in 2007. In 2008, Chandler helped the Mustangs to a 19-3 overall record, while earning all-state honors for the second consecutive year. During her junior season she helped Needles High School to a 20-5 record and Class 2A record ninth championship. Chandler capped her prep career by helping the Mustangs to a 31-11 overall record and fourth consecutive state title.
A three-sport athlete at Needles High School, Chandler was a First-Team All-State selection as a senior in basketball, while helping the Mustangs to back-to-back NIAA state titles in 2007-08 and 2008-09. She was Class 2A Player of the Year in the Southern League as a senior and helped the Mustangs to a combined 107-11 (.907) in her four years. Chandler led the team in scoring as a junior (13.7 ppg) and averaged 13.8 points and 5.5 assists per game during her senior year, while garnering all-state accolades each of her final three years on the hardwood. She also earned one letter in volleyball at Needles High School.
Chandler is the fifth recruit to sign with the Braves for the upcoming 2010-11 school year, joining Mariah Cole (Springfield, Ill./Chatham Glenwood), infield/utility player Brianne Joseph (Post Falls, Idaho/Post Falls), pitcher/outfielder Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) and catcher/utility player KayCee Miller (Omaha, Neb./Papillion-La Vista) in BU's incoming freshman class. The Braves also welcome junior Lindsay Hufeld (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) who has two years of eligibility remaining after transferring from Illinois Central College.
