LEMONT, Ill. -- Senior Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) shot scores of 76 and 75 to pace the Bradley men's golf team Saturday during the opening day of play at the John Dallio Memorial. The Braves are 13th in the field after 36 holes of play, with Thompson tied for 25th in the field.
Thompson was one of two Bradley players to shoot two rounds in the 70's, carding scored of 76 and 75 to finish Saturday's action tied for 25th at 151. He is one shot out of a tie for 20th and two shots back of a tie for 16th overall heading into Sunday's final round.
Freshman Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) also turned in a pair of sub-80 rounds, shooting a 79 and season-low 77 to close the day five shots back of Thompson in a tie for 44th at 156. Fellow freshman Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) is three back of Young in a tie for 52nd after turning in rounds of 80 and 79.
Travis Kreiter followed up an opening-round 81 with a 79 in the afternoon and is tied for 55th at 160. Senior Nathan Perry
(Normal, Ill./Normal West) rounded out the scoring for the Braves with scores of 89 and 84 and heads into the final round in 73rd place at 173.
Florida Gulf Coast holds a six-shot lead on the field at 587 with Detroit and Loyola tied for second at 593 after 36 holes of play. IUPUI is fourth in the team standings after one day of play at 594 and holds a two-shot edge on fifth-place Eastern Illinois (596). South Florida is sixth overall at 598, with tournament-host DePaul following in seventh at 604.
Oakland is in eighth place at 605, while SIU Edwardsville follows in ninth at 615. Western Illinois is four shots behind Cougars in 10th (619). Missouri Valley Conference foe Northern Iowa is 11th overall (622), with Southern Illinois (12th - 625) and Bradley (13th - 626) completing the field.
