LEMONT, Ill. - Senior Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) tied for 17th to help lead the Bradley men's golf team to a tie for 11th after shooting a 307 Sunday in the final round at the John Dallio Memorial at the par-72 Ruffled Feathers Golf Club.
Thompson carded a four-over 76 in the final round and finished tied for 17th in the field with a 54-hole total of 227 to lead the Braves as he moved into 13th in program history with his 65th career round in the 70's. Freshman Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) turned in the low round of the day for BU, firing a season-best, two-over par 74. Young finished three shots back of Thompson at 230 in a tie for 31st.
Fellow freshman Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) improved in each round and capped the tournament with a season-best, five-over par 77 to tied for 47th in the field at 236.
Freshman Travis Kreiter (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) tied for 56th at 240 after shooting a final-round 80, while senior Nathan Perry (Normal, Ill./Normal West) rounded out the scoring with a third-round score of 89 and was 73rd overall at 262.
The Braves tied Missouri Valley Conference foe Northern Iowa for 11th in the team standings at 933 and finished three shots behind 10th-place finisher Southern Illinois. IUPUI claimed the team title with a three-round score of 890 to edge second-place finisher Florida Gulf Coast (892).
Detroit was third at 901 and was followed closely by Loyola-Chicago (4th - 902), Oakland (5th - 903) and South Florida (6th - 904). Eastern finished in seventh place at 907, with tournament-host DePaul taking eighth (909). SIU Edwardsville placed ninth in the field (928), while Southern Illinois rounded out the top 10 at 930. Northern Iowa and Bradley tied for 11th at 933 and Western Illinois completed the field in 13th place at 934.
The Braves return to action Oct. 2 & 3 at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal, Ill.
