PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior goalkeeper Kyle Orne (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Tuesday after helping the Bradley soccer team open its season with a 2-0-1 record.
Orne started the first and third games during Bradley's season-opening East Coast road swing, picking up both victories for the Braves between the pipes. He boasted a .909 save percentage for the week, making five saves in each of his two appearances. Orne helped Bradley post a shutout 1-0 win at Delaware Sunday. During Wednesday's 2-1 win at Saint Peter's, he saved a potential game-tying penalty kick in the 89th minute. Currently pursuing a triple major in political science, English and Spanish, Orne owns a 3.83 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Orne and the Braves return to action Friday, when they face East Tennessee State at 5 p.m. at the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic in Evansville, Ind.
