FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Senior Erin Gorman (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) shot a career-best 76 to help the Bradley women's golf team shoot its second lowest round of the fall Sunday in the first round of the 34th annual Pat Bradley Invitational. The Braves are tied for sixth after 18 holes of play at the par-72 Pelican Preserve and Country Club.
Gorman was one of four Bradley players to card a score in the 70's on the first of three days of play at the Pat Bradley Invitational and helped the Braves finish the day tied with Florida Gulf Coast for sixth in the team standings with a score of 311.
She is tied for 14th heading into Monday's second round, while the team's 311 is the lowest round since wrapping up the season-opening, 54-hole Redbird Invitational with a final-round score of 309 back on Sept. 11.
The freshmen duo of Christie Lin (Calgary, Alberta/Sir John G Diefenbaker) and Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Walter Murray) ended the day tied for 27th after opening rounds of 78. Lin carded her team-leading 10th round in the 70's and Hedemann is second on the squad with nine sub-80 rounds on the year.
Senior Kelly Amundrud (Calgary, Alberta/Strathcona Tweedsmuir) is one shot behind the duo and three back of Gorman in a tie for 38th after a first round 79. Sophomore Cassandra Marschall (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield/Wisconsin-Green Bay) completed the scoring for BU, shooting an 82 Sunday and is tied for 58th.
Boston College is the team leader after 18 holes and is 11 shots better than Bradley at 300. North Texas is one back in second (301), with Eastern Michigan (3rd - 302) and Florida International (4th - 303) following closely behind. Stetson is five shots behind Boston College in fifth at 305 and holds a six-shot edge on Bradley and Florida Gulf Coast, which finished the day tied for sixth at 311.
Cincinnati begins Monday's round two shots back in eighth at 313 and holds a two-shot advantage on ninth-place Southern Miss (315). Delaware finished the day in 10th (317) and is followed by Daytona State College in 11th (32). Florida Atlantic and Drake closed out the opening round tied for 12th at 331 with Western Illinois behind in 14th (332). Bethune-Cookman rounds out the field in 15th (335).
Bradley continues play at the Pat Bradley Invitational Monday with the second round beginning at 8 a.m. (CDT). Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com
