EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Freshman Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) matched his season-best score with a two-over par 74 in the second round to help the Bradley men's golf team finish the opening day of SIU Edwardsville Invitational in seventh place.
Masrin shot a 77 in the day's first round, before matching his lowest round of the fall with a 74 in the afternoon and finished Monday's action tied for 18th at 151. Sophomore Travis Kreiter (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) is four shots behind Masrin in a tie for 27th at 155 after scores of 78 and 77.
Freshman Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) pushed his streak of consecutive rounds in the 70's to eight with rounds of 79 and 78 and is two shots behind Kreiter in 34th at 157. Sophomore Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) fired a second-round 78 to close the day in a tie for 38th at 159, while fellow sophomore Kyle Gunther's (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) afternoon score of 77 helped him finish the day at 160 in 41st.
Tournament-host SIU Edwardsville leads the 11-team field with a two-round total of 585. Evansville is three shots back in second at 588 and Missouri ended the day in third (589). Eastern Illinois is fourth in the standings (603) with Wright State (5th - 611) and Southern Illinois (6th - 613) following closely behind.
Bradley is eight shots behind the Salukis in seventh (621) after rounds of 315 and 306. The Braves own a five-shot lead on North Dakota (8th - 626) and 18-shot advantage on ninth-place Nebraska-Omaha (639). South Dakota will begin the final round in 10th overall at 640 and Chicago State rounds out the field in 11th (713).
The Braves close out play at the SIU Edwardsville Invitational Tuesday with one round of play.
