KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The Bradley men's golf team made its first trip to the state of South Carolina since 2004 a successful one, turning in the lowest 54-hole team score since last fall and tying for seventh at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate Tuesday.
The Braves finished out play with a third-round score of 315 Tuesday at the par-72 Turtle Point Golf Club to finish with a team total of 922 and tie USC Upstate for seventh. The 21-team tournament field was the largest for BU since April 1995.
Freshman Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) finished out his strong play to close the fall with a 76 en route to his first career top-20 finish. Masrin, who averaged 76.6 strokes per round in the final three events of the fall, was 20th in the field at 225.
Fellow freshman Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) wrapped up the fall with a team-best 76.3 stroke average after shooting his 12th consecutive round in the 70's. Trolia finished five back of Masrin in a tie for 36th at 230 after a final-round 79.
Sophomore Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) shot an 80 Tuesday to tie for 47th (234), while sophomore Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) closed out play with an 82 and was tied for 65th (238). Fellow sophomore Travis Kreiter (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) turned in a final-round 80 and was tied for 90th (245) in the final individual standings.
Kennesaw State and Campbell tied for the team title at 881, while Jacksonville State was 10 shots back in third at 891. Tournament-host Charleston Southern was fourth overall at 900 with George Washington following in fifth (911). Minnesota placed sixth in the team standings (912), beating USC Upstate (922) and Bradley (922) by 10 shots.
USC Upstate and Bradley edged ninth-place Wisconsin (923) by one shot and the duo of IUPUI and Presbyterian tied for 10th at 924. Missouri Valley Conference foe Creighton was 19th in the 21-team field at 943.
