ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Junior Katie Yohn (Elgin, Ill./York) hit six three-pointers and senior MacKenzie Westcott (Williamsburg, Iowa/Williamsburg) had her second straight double-double to help power the Bradley women's basketball team to a 71-61 victory at Winthrop in the first road game of the season.

The Braves (2-1 overall), who are playing three games in three days at the Winthrop Classic, opened tournament play and a season-long four-game road swing with the 10-point victory.  BU hit a season-high 11 three-pointers, the most since Nov. 29, 2009, in the victory to spoil the home opener for the Eagles.

Yohn knocked down 5-of-6 three-pointers in the first half and had 19 points in the opening 20 minutes to help Bradley to a 40-38 advantage at the break.  Westcott collected eight points and seven rebounds in the first half, but was limited to just nine minutes because of two early fouls.

Defense proved to be the key in the second half, with BU limiting Winthrop to 22 percent shooting after the intermission.  Bradley pushed the lead to eight points (48-40) in the opening minutes of the second half, before Winthrop (1-1 overall) cut the Braves advantage to four points (50-46) with just under 12 minutes to play.

Yohn opened a 12-3 run with her sixth three-pointer of the contest and sophomore Catie O'Leary (Janesville, Wis./Parker/Wisconsin) had an assist and back-to-back baskets to cap the spurt which gave the Braves a 62-49 lead with 5:41 remaining.

Winthrop didn't go away with a fight with Diana Choibekova hitting a pair of three-pointers during an 8-0 Eagles run to trim the BU advantage to 64-60 with two minutes on the clock.

Westcott answered with a three-point play to push the BU edge to seven (67-60) and Winthrop missed its final eight shots from the field as the Braves pulled away down the stretch for the victory.

Bradley held Winthrop to 30.1 percent shooting and the Braves collected 11 blocks, marking the most blocks in a game since Feb. 2009.  BU committed a season-low 13 turnovers and outrebounded the Eagles 47-43.

Yohn finished with a game-high 24 points and three blocks to pace four Bradley players in double figures.  Westcott had 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 11 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double, while O'Leary added 13 points.  Senior Leah Kassing (Mt. Sterling, Ill./Brown County) was 5-of-8 from the field and had 10 points for her fifth straight game with 10 points or more.

Dequesha McClanahan led Winthrop with 16 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.  Choibekova hit four three-pointers and finished with 15 points, while Samiya Wright came off the bench to hit 3-of-3 from beyond the arc and collected 11 points.

Bradley continues play at the Winthrop Classic Saturday at noon (CST) against 2011 NCAA Tournament participant Stetson.
