Box Score ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Senior Leah Kassing (Mt. Sterling, Ill./Brown County) scored a career-high 18 points and added 10 rebounds for her second career double-double, but Stetson used an 11-1 second-half run to take control down the stretch and top Bradley 73-63 Saturday afternoon during the second day of play at the Winthrop Classic.
Bradley (2-2 overall) led most of the first half and owned a 36-33 lead at the break after a Katie Yohn (Elgin, Ill./St. Edward) three-pointer in the closing minutes of the period.
Stetson (3-1 overall) opened the second half with a 12-4 spurt to go in front 45-40 on a three-pointer by Atlantic Sun Preseason Player of the Year Victoria McGowan with 15:30 to play.
The Braves pulled even at 47-47 midway through the period on a pair of free throws by freshman Michelle Young (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) and trailed 56-53 with just under seven minutes after a MacKenzie Westcott (Williamburg, Iowa/Williamsburg) hoop when the Hatters made their push.
Shanasa Sanders opened the run with a pair of free throws and Jama Sharp followed a BU turnover with a three pointer. After Westcott split a pair of free throws, McGowan made a shot in the lane and Sasha Sims had a basket in the paint to push the Stetson advantage to 65-54. Bradley missed the front end of a pair of one-and-one's and a pair of McGowan free throws with 4:13 left gave the Hatters the biggest lead of the contest (67-54).
Bradley trimmed the deficit to seven points (68-61) with 2:37 to play, but would get no closer as Stetson made 5-of-6 free throws in the closing minutes and the Braves were scoreless on their next four possessions.
Kassing scored in double figures for the sixth consecutive game, finishing with a career-best 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds, three assists and a block. Sophomore Kelsey Budd (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) added 10 points, while Westcott collected 10 points, six boards, two assists and three blocks.
McGowan led Stetson with 22 points and was one of four Hatter players in double figures. Cherisse Burris had 16 points and three steals. Sims finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds, helping Stetson to a 36-35 rebounding edge, while Sanders was also in double digits with 10 points.
Bradley returns to action Sunday, closing out play at the Winthrop Classic with a noon (CST) matchup with Niagara.
