PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore guard Kelsey Budd (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping the Bradley women's basketball team to a 96-88 victory against Iowa Saturday.
Named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday, Budd highlighted Bradley's first win against Iowa and first home win against a Big Ten Conference opponent since Dec. 3, 1999 with a career-high 31 points off the bench. She made 12-of-14 shots from the field, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc, as she turned in the most points by a Bradley reserve since Shelli Braud scored 32 points off the bench at Missouri State on Feb. 18, 1988. A sports communication major, Budd owns a 3.55 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Budd and the Braves return to action tonight, hosting Western Illinois in a 7 p.m. contest at Renaissance Coliseum. In support of the PCCEO Peoria Area Food Bank, fans can donate two canned food items for free admission to Wednesday's game against the Leathernecks.
