CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Senior Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) finished third in the mile and also took fourth in the 800 meter finals to highlight the final day of competition for the Bradley track and field team at the 2011 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships Sunday at the UNI-Dome.
Goldkamp opened the day with a third-place finish in the mile, crossing the line less than two and a half seconds behind first-place finisher Tonya Nero of Wichita State in a time of 4:57.14. She followed it up with a fourth place finish in the 800 meter finals. After winner her prelim heat in the 800 meters Saturday, Goldkamp clocked a time of 2:13.87 to finish fourth overall during Sunday's finals.
"It was a strong team effort," head coach Marc Burns said. "We scored the most points in over a decade for a Bradley team at the indoor championship, with Mary (Goldkamp) turning in two strong performances in the final day. Overall, we are excited about the progress made and look to continuing to build momentum as we move forward. Everyone competed with a lot of pride and we got some valuable championship experience."
The Braves also scored in the 4x400, with the freshmen duo of Cassie Lohmeier (East Peoria, ,Ill./East Peoria) and Emily Wolbers (Moline, Ill./Moline) teaming up with Goldkamp and junior Michelle Hartman (Savanna, Ill./Prince of Peace) to finish eighth in a season-best time of 4:09.49.
Bradley is scheduled to return to action Saturday at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
