CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- The Bradley women's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season, notching a 5-2 road win at Southeast Missouri State Saturday at the Class Act Family Fitness Center. The freshmen pair of Adele Henke (Edina, Minn./Edina) and Meredith McDonagh (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan) both scored wins in singles and teamed up for a win in doubles to help highlight the victory for the Braves.
Henke and McDonagh earned a 6-3 win at #2 doubles against the Redhawks' duo of Ashton Hartley and Laura Garcia. Bradley claimed the doubles point when senior Nicole Milller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West) and freshman Sarah Rodefeld (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) picked up a hard-fought 8-6 victory at #1 doubles.
In singles action, the Braves (1-1 overall) took four of the six matches from Southeast Missouri State (0-3 overall) to seal the 5-2 victory. Rodefeld was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at #2 singles against Elizabeth Nyenwe and McDonagh picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win against Laura Garcia at #3 singles.
Henke and fellow freshman Ashley Roth (Birmingham, Mich./Birmigham Seaholm) both earned their first career singles victories to help lock up the victory for Bradley. Henke was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at #4 singles, while Roth earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at #6 singles to help highlight the win.
The Braves continue a season-long, five-match road swing Sunday with a noon match at SIU Edwardsville.
