PEORIA, Ill. - The Bradley men's golf team makes its first trip to the state of Florida since March 2006, playing in a pair of events in the Jacksonville, Fla., area during spring break.
The Braves begin the week with the Benbow Invitational at the par-71 Jacksonville Beach Golf Course, Monday and Tuesday. The 36-hole event kicks off Monday with one round of play and concludes with one round of play Tuesday.
Bradley will move to the par-72 Windsor Parke Golf Club Wednesday and Thursday where the Braves will square off with Butler, IUPUI, Eastern Illinois and Wisconsin-Green Bay in a 36-hole event. Both tournaments are hosted by Butler.
Senior Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) moved into eighth in career rounds in the 70's in the spring opener in Chandler, Ariz., last month and needs four rounds sub-80 rounds to move into a tie for seventh. Thompson shot a season-low 73 in his last round and has shot seven consecutive rounds in the 70's, averaging 75.0 strokes per round over that stretch.
Freshman Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) had a streak of seven consecutive rounds in the 70's snapped last time out and is tied with fellow frosh Travis Kreiter (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) for second on the squad with a 78.1 stroke average.
Freshman Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) fired a season-best 74 last round and is coming off a season-low 54-hole total of 234.
Following the trip to Florida, the Braves will play in the Beu/Mussatto Invitational March 28 & 29 in Macomb, Ill.
