PEORIA, Ill. -- Freshman Travis Kreiter (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week according to an announcement by the league office Wednesday. Kreiter is the first Bradley men's golfer to win conference athlete of the week honors since Scott Phegley in October 2006.
Kreiter earned award after taking medalist honors for the first time in his career at last week's Bulldog Florida Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. After an opening round 75, he carded his lowest round of the spring with a one-over par 73 to finish the 36-hole event five shots ahead of the field at 148. Kreiter was the first player in program history to earn medalist honors in a tournament since Craig Tautges in October 2005.
Bradley's top finisher in three of seven events this year, Kreiter ranks second on the team with a 77.6 stroke average this season and posted a 76.0 average in four rounds during Bradley's spring break trip to Florida last week.
Kreiter and the Braves return to action Monday and Tuesday at the Beu/Mussatto Invitational in Macomb, Ill.
