PEORIA, Ill. -- The Bradley women's golf team returns to the course Sunday and Monday, taking part in the 36-hole Saluki Invitational at the par-72 Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale, Ill., following a ninth-place finish at last week's NAU Lumberjack Shootout in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
The Braves will be playing in the Saluki Invitational for the sixth consecutive year and 16th time in the last 17 seasons. Bradley has had a great deal of success in past years in Carbondale, Ill., finishing fifth or better in the tournament each of the last five trips and eight of the last nine times overall in the Saluki Invitational.
BU claimed the Saluki Invitational tournament title in 2006 and has placed in the top three six times. The 14-team field features four other Missouri Valley Conference squads (Creighton, Drake, Indiana State and Southern Illinois) and also includes Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Northern Illinois, SIU Edwardsville, Toledo and Western Illinois.
Senior Breanne Neufeld (Coaldale, Alberta/Kate Andrews) tied for ninth at last year's Saluki Invitational and has finished in the top 15 each of her last two times in the event. She owns a 78.3 career stroke average in the Saluki Invitational and enters Sunday's opening round tied with Bari Erais for most rounds played (108) in school history. Neufeld tied for 14th last week at the Lumberjack Shootout and owns a 75.3 stroke average this spring.
Junior Kelly Amundrud (Calgary, Alberta/Strathcona Tweedsmuir) has finished in the top 20 in each of her two previous trips to the Saluki Invitational, including 2008-09 when she tied for third as a freshman. Amundrud also owns a 78.3 career stroke average at the Saluki Invitational and is coming off her lowest round of the spring after carding a final-round 71 at the Lumberjack Shootout.
Senior Caitlin Deeken (California, Mo./California) is also coming off her lowest round of the spring, a two-over 74, and has averaged 78.4 strokes per round over her last seven efforts.
Following the Saluki Invitational, Bradley plays April 4 & 5 at the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., before the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship April 22 & 23 in Normal, Ill.
