PEORIA, Ill. - The Bradley women's tennis team opened conference play with a 6-1 loss to State Friday afternoon at the Clubs at River City. Senior Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West) picked up a singles victory and also combined with freshman Adele Henke (Edina, Minn./Edina) for a doubles win to highlight Friday's action for the Braves.
Miller moved into a tie with Elise Montrose for fifth place in school history in combined wins, picking up a pair of victories during Friday's match to push her career win total to 98. Miller earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at #1 singles against Aniko Kiss and combined with Henke to pull out an 8-6 victory at #1 doubles.
Freshman Sarah Rodefeld (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) won her first set at #2 singles 6-3, but ISU's Phyllis Tigres rallied to take the final two sets 6-1, 10-5. Illinois State took the other four singles matches in straight sets to lock up the victory.
Bradley fell to 2-13 overall and 0-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play with the loss, while Illinois State improved to 5-6 overall and 1-0 in league action.
Bradley closes non-conference play Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. match against Western Illinois at the Clubs at River City.
