PEORIA, Ill. -- Over the years Macomb, Ill., has been a frequent stop for the Bradley men's golf team and this spring will be no different as the Braves take part in the 39th annual Beu/Mussatto Invitational Monday and Tuesday at the par-72 Harry Mussatto Golf Course.
Bradley has played in the Beu/Mussatto Invitational in eight of the last 10 years and BU has participated in a spring tournament in Macomb, Ill., in 30 of the last 38 seasons overall. The 54-hole event starts Monday with two rounds beginning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start and wraps up Tuesday with a single round.
The tournament field includes six other instate schools (Eastern Illinois, Chicago State, Monmouth, Illinois Central College, St. Francis and Western Illinois) in addition to North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Truman State, Oakland, Wisconsin-Green Bay, St. Ambrose and IPFW.
Freshman Travis Kreiter (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) was named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week Wednesday after winning medalist honors at the Butler Florida Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla., last week. He carded rounds of 75 and 73 to finish five shots ahead of the field and has fired five consecutive rounds in the 70's.
Senior Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) has placed in the top 20 in both of his previous tournaments at the Beu/Mussatto Invite and has a 76.6 career stroke average at the Harry Mussatto Golf Course. He tied for eighth in the rain-shortened event as a sophomore and tied for 20th last season. Thompson owns a 74.8 stoke average over his last 10 rounds and finished five shots behind Kreiter in a tie for second at last week's Butler Florida Invitational.
The Braves have two other tournaments remaining on the schedule, playing April 4 & 5 at the Branson Creek Invitational in Branson, Mo., before taking part in the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship (April 25 & 26) in Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.
