PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week according to an announcement by the league office Monday.
Miller earned the honor for the first time in her career after going a combined 4-0 in a pair of matches last week. She picked up a pair of wins at #1 singles and also went 2-0 at #1 doubles in matches against I-74 rival Illinois State and Western Illinois.
In Bradley's Missouri Valley Conference opener against I-74 Illinois State, she earned the Braves only point in a 6-1 loss with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against ISU's Aniko Kiss at #1 singles. The win was Bradley's first singles victory against Illinois State since Kim Braun was victorious at #6 singles against the Redbirds in 2007-08 and is just the second singles win in the series for BU since the 1993-94 season. Miller also combined with freshman Adele Henke (Edina, Minn./Edina) for an 8-6 win at #1 doubles against Illinois State.
After dropping the opening set of her #1 singles match against Western Illinois, Miller rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 14-12 win and also teamed with Henke for a 9-7 win at #1 doubles to help Bradley top Western Illinois 7-0 in the final non-conference match of the season.
Miller's three-set singles win against Western Illinois was her 100th career victory, making her just the fifth player in program history with 100 combined wins. She is tied for the team lead in both singles wins (8) and doubles victories (7) this season.
Miller and the Braves return to action Sunday, facing Creighton in a 10 a.m. match in Omaha, Neb.
