RIO VERDE, Ariz. - Junior Kelly Amundrud (Calgary, Alberta/Strathcona Tweedsmuir) shot a three-over par 75 and senior Caitlin Deeken (California, Mo./California) carded her third straight round in the 70's to highlight Saturday's play for the Bradley women's golf team at the Rio Verde Invitational. The Braves were nine shots better on the second day at the Rio Verde Country Club's par-72 White Wing Course and head into Sunday's final round tied with Xavier for 12th.
Amundrud became the fourth player in program history with 60 or more career rounds in the 70's, with a second-round 75 and is tied for 19th overall at 155. Deeken matched her first round 79 with a seven-over par 79 and is three shots behind Amundrud at 158 in a tie for 33rd.
Senior Breanne Nuefeld (Coaldale, Alberta/Kate Andrews) fired an 80 during Saturday's play and is tied for 39th at 159, while sophomore Natalie Wisniewski (Williamsville, N.Y./South) matched Neufeld with an 80 and is tied for 69th at 165. Junior Erin Gorman (Rockford, Ill./Boylan)0 rounded out the scoring for the Braves with a second-round 86. Gorman heads into Sunday's final round tied for 82nd at 173.
Eastern Michigan holds an eight-shot lead on the field after 36 holes, finishing the day at 600. Michigan is second at 608 and Northern Arizona follows in third place at 611. Penn State closed out Saturday's action in fourth at 614 and holds a three-shot advantage on fifth-place Toledo (617).
Akron closed out Saturday's play in sixth (621) with Missouri State following in seventh (624). Cincinnati is three shots back in eighth (627), while 48th-ranked Arkansas-Little Rock (9th - 629) and Ball State (10th - 631) round out the top 10.
Tournament-host Western Michigan is 11th and the Broncos hold a two-shot edge on Bradley and Xavier which finished the day tied for 12th at 637. Texas A&M Corpus Christi trails by one shot in 14th at 638. Missouri Valley Conference rival Southern Illinois is 15th at 640 with Ohio and Bowling Green tied for 16th overall at 678.
