ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Junior guard Hanna Muegge (Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins) earned honorable mention Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete recognition announced by league office Tuesday.
A biology major with a 3.76 cumulative grade point average, Muegge returned to the court this season after having her sophomore year cut short due to a season-ending injury. She has helped Bradley to a 10-8 record in her 18 starts this year and the Braves are 21-13 over the last two seasons when she is starting lineup.
Muegge is averaging 5.3 points and 1.1 assists per game this season and ranks second on the team with 25 three-pointers. The team leader in free throw percentage (85.4 percent), she is shooting 38.5 percent from beyond the arc this season and made 39.5 percent of her three-point attempts in Missouri Valley Conference play.
Over the last three games she has averaged 10.0 points per game and is coming off a season-best 17 points in Bradley's come-from-behind win against Indiana State. Muegge has started the last nine games and is averaging 6.5 points, while shooting 11-for-25 (44 percent) from three-point range in that time.
Muegge is tied for third in school history, shooting 38.9 percent from three-point range in her career and has been named to the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll all five of her semesters at BU.
The criteria for the scholar-athlete team balloting parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves, have played at least 75 percent of a team's games, and must carry at least a 3.20 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
Student-athletes must also have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true and redshirt freshmen are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution.
Muegge and the Braves face Evansville Thursday at 5:05 p.m. in the opening round of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in St. Charles, Mo. Fans attending the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament are encouraged to attend a sendoff for the Braves Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Sheraton Westport Lakeside Chalet at 191 West Westport Plaza in St. Louis.
