PEORIA, Ill. -- The Bradley women's tennis team will face regular-season Missouri Valley Conference champion Wichita State Friday morning when the teams open play with a 9 a.m. match in the quarterfinals of the State Farm MVC Women's Tennis Championship. The three-day tournament will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo.
Bradley (3-19 overall, 0-7 MVC) played shorthanded in each of the final five matches of the regular season. The Braves fell to Wichita State (13-10 overall, 7-0 MVC) 7-0 during the regular season in Wichita, Kan., to open a season-ending three-match road swing.
Senior Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West) helped highlight the loss to the Shockers for the Braves, suffering a 6-3, 6-1 setback at #1 singles, while freshman Sarah Rodefeld (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) fell 6-0, 6-2 at #2 singles in the season's first meeting.
Miller is currently tied for fifth in career combined wins at Bradley with 101 victories and is one singles win away from joining Ashley Morris as the only players in school history with 50 career doubles and singles victories. Miller leads the squad with nine singles victories.
The winner of Friday's 9 a.m. match between Bradley and Wichita State will advance to take on either Evansville or Southern Illinois Saturday at 1 p.m. in the semifinals.
