HOLLISTER, Mo. -- Freshman Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) was the only Bradley player to shoot in the 70's in the first two rounds and helped the Bradley men's golf team finish the day 11th in the team standings Monday at the 11th annual Branson Creek Invitational.
Young turned in rounds of 79 and 78 on the opening day of play at the par-71 Branson Creek Golf Club and is tied for 24th after 36 holes at 157. Windy conditions made for difficult play as Young was the only Brave to card a sub-80 round Monday.
Senior Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) is five shots behind Young in a tie for 39th at 162 after rounds of 80 and 82 Monday, while freshman Travis Kreiter (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) finished the day alone in 53rd (166) following scores of 81 and 85.
Freshman Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) turned in scores of 81 and 87 to close the day in a tie for 58th (168) and freshman Andrew Weisenborn (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) rounded out the scoring for Bradley with rounds of 86 and 83 to finish Monday's action one shot behind Gunther in 60th (169).
Stephen F. Austin holds a four-shot lead on the field at 601, with tournament-host Missouri State following in second at 605. The Bears hold a four-shot edge on third-place UMKC (609) and five-shot advantage on fourth-place SIU Edwardsville (610). Western Kentucky closed out the top five at 621, while Drake followed in sixth (628).
Western Illinois (7th - 639) is one better than eighth-place Eastern Illinois (640) with South Dakota chasing in ninth at 644. Southern Illinois is four shots better than the Braves in 10th place (645), with Bradley in 11th at 649 after rounds of 321 and 328. Houston Baptist rounds out the field in 12th at 652.
The Braves close out play at the Branson Creek Invitational Tuesday with one round of play beginning at 8:30 a.m. (CDT).
