COLUMUS, Ind. - The Bradley women's golf returned to the course Tuesday to close out play at the Indiana Invitational after play was suspended midway through Monday's opening round and the Braves turned in rounds of 323 and 313 to finish 11th in a field which included six teams ranked in the top 70.
Originally scheduled to be a 54-hole tournament, the Indiana Invitational was shortened to 36 holes after play was suspended midway through Monday's opening round late in the afternoon. Bradley was the top finisher among three Missouri Valley Conference schools in the field, finishing 12 shots from a top-five showing.
Junior Kelly Amundrud (Calgary, Alberta/Strathcona Tweedsmuir) highlighted play at the par-72 Otter Creek Golf Club for the Braves with rounds of 78 and 73 to tie for sixth at 151. She finished six shots behind individual medalist of Maria Castellanos of Louisville (145) en route to her team-best sixth top-10 finish of the season.
Amundrud, who tied the Bradley season record with her 25th round in the 70's, moved into a tie for third in school history with her 14th career top-10 showing and also moved into third place in career sub-80 rounds with her 67th career round in the 70's. She tied Meaghan LeBlanc's season record of 25 sub-80 rounds set during 2005-06.
Senior Breanne Neufeld (Coaldale, Alberta/Kate Andrews) finished one shot out of the top 20, tying for 24th overall at 157. After an opening round 80, she closed out play with a final round 77 to help Bradley improve by 10 shots in the second round.
Junior Erin Gorman (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) carded rounds of 82 and 81 to tie for 54th at 163, while senior Caitlin Deeken (California, Mo./California) turned in scores of 85 and 82 to finish four behind Gorman in a tie for 69th (167). Sophomore Natalie Wisniewski (Williamsville, N.Y./South) rounded out the team scoring for BU, shooting rounds of 82 and 94 to tie for 82nd (177).
Louisville had the top three individuals in the field and four of the top 12 as the Cardinals cruised to the tournament title with a total of 593 in the shortened event. Eastern Michigan was second (615) and Illinois followed in third (619). Tournament-host Indiana was fourth overall (622), edging fifth-place Kansas State (624) by two shots.
Western Michigan claimed sixth with a two-round total of 626 with Wisconsin following in seventh (628). Akron was one back in eighth (629), while Indiana's second team and Ball State tied for ninth (633). Bradley closed out play in 11th (636) and the Braves were 11 shots better than I-74 rival Illinois State which finished 12th (647). IUPUI was 13th (648) with Oakland (14th - 655) and Evansville (15th - 676) rounding out the field, respectively.
Bradley returns to action April 22 & 23 when the Braves play in the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship in Normal, Ill.
