CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Freshmen Kyela Specht (Munster, Ind./Munster) and Emily Delvo (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) were Bradley's top finisher in the 600 & 800 meters, respectively, to help highlight action for the BU track and field team at the Illini Classic Saturday at the University of Illinois Armory.
Specht posted the best finish of the day for the Braves, placing seventh in the 600 meters with a season-best time of 1:39.85. She was followed by freshman Molly Dahlquist (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) in ninth in a time of 1:40.25 in her first track outing of the year as freshmen were the top four BU finishers in the 600 meters.
In the 800 meters, Delvo was 10th in the field with a time of 2:23.51 to edge senior Sarah Higgins (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais), who ran a career-best 2:24.04 to finish 11th.
Sophomore Whitney Schumacher (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) finished eighth in the mile, clocking a season-best 5:16.62 and missed a top five finish by 11 seconds. Freshman Sarah McMahon (Colfax, Wis./Colfax) was five seconds off her mile time last week, placing 11th at 5:18.98.
Bradley returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Ind.
