BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Freshman Sarah McMahon (Colfax, Wis./Colfax) finished second in the 3,000 meters and was one of several top 10 performances in program history for the Bradley track and field team during the opening day of the Indiana Relays Friday.
McMahon joined Bradley Hall of Fame member Mary Ellen Hill as the only individuals in program history to run a sub 10-minute time in the 3,000 meters, finishing 2.26 seconds behind Michigan State's Melanie Brender. McMahon's time of 9:58.16 is the ninth fastest 3,000 meters in program history and is the best effort by a BU runner since Hill ran a 9:42.09 in 2000.
Fellow freshman Emily Delvo (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) also turned in a strong performance winning her 600-meter heat with a time of 1:38.07. Delvo finished 15th overall and her time was the ninth best performance in school history in addition to ranking as BU's best since Tam Hart clocked a 1:36.17 in 2003.
Freshman Hannah Booker (Tremont, Ill./Tremont) ran a season-best 1:38.74 in the 600 to finish 19th, with both Booker and Delvo's career-best 600 times ranking among the top seven career-best times in school history.
The distance medley relay team of Kyela Specht (Munster, Ind./Munster), Taylor Johnson (Lincoln, Neb./Southeast), Molly Dahlquist (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) and Whitney Schumacher (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) placed eighth in the event at 12:12.24, running the fourth fastest DMR in school history.
"It was a great start to our weekend with four personal bests and some top-10 performances," Bradley track and field head coach Marc Burns said. "(Sarah) McMahon ran a fantastic race moving all the way up to second and will be ready to compete in two weeks at the USA Junior National Cross Country Championships in St. Louis. Our DMR ran tough tonight with strong legs across the board and I thought (Emily) Delvo and (Hannah) Booker turned in gutsy efforts."
Senior Sarah Hallstein (Minier, Ill./Olympia) turned in a career-best 5:35.89 in the mile and fellow senior Lyndsey Cleghorn (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) was 23rd in the high jump, clearing 1.52 meters to round out day one action for the Braves.
Bradley continues action at the Indiana Relays Saturday, competing in the 800 meters and the 4x800 meter relay.
