BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Bradley track and field team broke the school record in the 4x800 meter relay and freshman Emily Delvo (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) turned in another strong performance in the 800 meters to highlight the final day of the Indiana Relays for the Braves Saturday.
The freshmen quartet of Molly Dahlquist (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame), Kyela Specht (Munster, Ind./Munster), Hannah Booker (Tremont, Ill./Tremont) and Taylor Johnson (Lincoln, Neb./Southeast) combined to finish fourth in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:14.44.
The group was less than one-half second behind third place and broke the previous school record of 9:45.29 set in 1986 by nearly 41 seconds.
"We smashed the 4x800m record with four freshmen today," Bradley track and field head coach Marc Burns said. "They competed hard and looked very strong. We had another frosh in Delvo run the 5th fastest open 800 meter in history and she wasn't even on the 4x800m relay. It was a great day for these women and our program."
Delvo, who turned in the fastest 600 meter time since 2003 during Friday's competition, turned in another strong effort Saturday in the 800 meters; running a season-best 2:17.20 to finish 11th. Her time was six seconds better than last week's effort at the Illini Classic and gives her the fifth fastest career-best time in school history in the 800 meters.
Sophomore Whitney Schumacher (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) ran in the 800 meters for the first time this season, finishing 34th at 2:26.20.
The Bradley track and field team has next week off before returning to action Feb. 10 & 11 at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.
