PEORIA, Ill. – Four former Bradley University students will be enshrined in the Bradley Athletics Hall of Fame during the annual induction ceremonies Feb. 15-16 surrounding the men's basketball game versus Indiana State.
The Bradley Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2013 includes soccer player Gavin Glinton (Brentwood, Calif./Livermore H.S.), volleyball player Samantha Hardwick (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community H.S.), men's cross country and track runner Philip Lockwood (Morton, Ill./Morton H.S.) and figure skater Matt Savoie (Peoria, Ill./Peoria H.S.). Glinton and Savoie will be pictured in the Burklund Family Heritage Hall display, based on their accomplishments at the national and international levels.
The quartet will the featured guests at the Braves Club Game Day Luncheon, presented by Herget Bank, Feb. 15 in the Michel Student Center, then officially will be inducted into the Bradley Athletics Hall of Fame during halftime of the Feb. 16 men's basketball game versus Indiana State at Carver Arena. Tickets for the Game Day Luncheon are $20 for Braves Club members, $25 for non-members, and may be purchased in advance by contacting the Braves Club Office at 309-677-2667. Tickets for the men's basketball game against the Sycamores will range from $8-20, based on location, and will go on sale starting Nov. 9.
Glinton remains the only 4-year All-American in Bradley Athletics and Missouri Valley Conference men's soccer history, as well as the only 4-time, first-team all-conference selection in Valley men's soccer history. He remains the all-time leading scorer in Bradley Soccer history with 53 goals and 133 points, totals that also remain second in Valley history. His 133 points are 49 more than the second-best total at Bradley and his 53 goals are 21 more than second. For added perspective, both the 49-point and 21-goal differentials themselves would rank among Bradley's all-time top 10.
Glinton was a second-team All-American as a freshman in 1998, when he led the Braves to their first-ever Valley regular-season championship by scoring a league-best 15 goals, and he was a third-team All-American as a junior in 2000, when he again scored 15 goals while leading the Braves to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. He was an honorable-mention All-American in 1999 and a second-team All-American in 2001.
One of four Bradley players on the MVC All-Centennial Men's Soccer Team, Glinton was selected in the second round of the 2002 MLS SuperDraft by the Los Angeles Galaxy and he played four years in Major League Soccer with the Galaxy, Dallas and San Jose. He also has earned six national team CAPS for Turks & Caicos, including one in the Caribbean Island country's first-ever international victory during the 2006 Digicel Caribbean Cup.
Samantha Hardwick | Volleyball | 1998-2001
Arguably the best all-around volleyball player in Bradley history, Hardwick is the only Brave to accumulate more than 3000 assists, 1000 digs and 500 kills and she became the second player in Missouri Valley Conference volleyball history to achieve those three marks. She also added more than 300 blocks to her career statistics. While putting up her all-around numbers, Hardwick led the Braves to a pair of 20-win seasons, including a 24-8 campaign and 14-4 Valley record in 2001.
Hardwick is one of six players in Bradley Volleyball history to twice earn first-team All-MVC honors (2000, 2001) and she was the runner-up for the 2001 MVC Player-of-the-Year award, finishing second to UNI's Molly O'Brien, who will become the first-ever volleyball player inducted into the MVC Hall of Fame in March. In addition to her accomplishments on the court, Hardwick was voted to the 2001 Capital One Academic All-District V first team and was a three-time MVC Scholar-Athlete.
